NIGHT LIVE
Bringing the unseen to light Night Live is a fusion of film, music and networking under one roof.
bfm and the Rich Mix Cultural Foundation have come together to makeover our experience of going to the movies. London’s diverse cultural energy will move into Shoreditch for an exclusive monthly event in the newly refurbished eclectic Rich Mix arts centre for Thursday Night Live!
Each month we will screen a film followed by a Q&A with a guest panel and discussion on the issues raised.
To add to the unique occasion, a cocktail of music and poetry will be provided by some of the very best in UK talent with our resident DJ Twin B spinning the decks all night long.
The night will draw in audiences from all over London and will become a great magnet for filmmakers and film lovers, urban poets, new writers, rappers, musicians, singers and artists. Essentially, it’s for people who just to love to meet, network and bounce ideas off like-minded souls.
“bfm are here to bring the unseen to light. Our aim is to give a platform to film, the makers of film and build audiences for film. We have also recognised that there is a shortage of alternative nights out there for fans of black and urban entertainment. As a result we are launching Thursday Night Live to showcase new talent, discuss hot topics and feature breaking music - all under one roof!” – Ben Ryan, Programme Director (bfm)

BFM (black filmmaker) was established in 1998 by Menelik Shabazz, an award-winning filmmaker (Step Forward Youth and Burning an Illusion). It began with his vision to raise the profile of black cinema locally and internationally in front and behind the camera. The aim of bfm is ‘bringing the unseen to light’.
We currently run a successful Film Club at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) since April 2003, where screenings are held on the first Sunday of each month. These monthly interactive sessions are designed to bridge the gap between filmmakers and the audience.
bfm also runs the International Film Festival (bfm IFF) hosted by the ICA and cinemas across London. This year bfm IFF is celebrating its 10th anniversary, with screenings taking place at the BFI, the British Museum and other prominent London venues from 7th – 17th November 2008.
