BFM

BFM (black filmmaker) was established in 1998 by Menelik Shabazz, an award-winning filmmaker (Step Forward Youth and Burning an Illusion). It began with his vision to raise the profile of black cinema locally and internationally in front and behind the camera. The aim of bfm is ‘bringing the unseen to light’. We currently run a successful Film Club at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) since April 2003, where screenings are held on the first Sunday of each month. These monthly interactive sessions are designed to bridge the gap between filmmakers and the audience. bfm also runs the International Film Festival (bfm IFF) hosted by the ICA and cinemas across London. This year bfm IFF is celebrating its 10th anniversary, with screenings taking place at the BFI, the British Museum and other prominent London venues from 7th – 17th November 2008.
